Live Timer FAQs

Questions about running a live meeting cost timer and making the most of it.

How does the live meeting timer work?+
Enter the number of attendees and their average hourly rate, then hit start. The timer calculates the running cost in real-time based on everyone's fully-loaded hourly rate, so you see exactly what the meeting is costing as it happens.
Why does the timer use "fully-loaded" rates?+
The real cost of an employee in a meeting isn't just their salary. We multiply by 1.35 to account for benefits, taxes, and overhead, giving you the true per-minute cost your company pays while everyone sits in that room.
Should I display this timer during actual meetings?+
Yes! Use Focus Mode (the expand button) to display the timer on a shared screen. It's a powerful visual that encourages everyone to stay on track and wrap up when the agenda is done.
Can I share the final cost?+
After stopping the timer, use the Share button to download an image card showing the meeting duration, attendee count, and total cost. Share it in Slack or your team channel to spark conversation about meeting efficiency.
How accurate is this calculation?+
The calculation uses the formula: (attendees × hourly rate × 1.35) × hours. While individual salaries vary, using an average gives you a reliable ballpark for what meetings actually cost your organization.
What if attendees have different salaries?+
Use an average hourly rate across attendees. For more precise calculations with individual salaries, try our Meeting Simulator which lets you add participants with different rates.

How to use the live timer

1

Set your inputs

Enter the number of people in the room and their average hourly rate. Don't know the exact number? Use $50/hour as a rough average for most professionals.

2

Start the timer

Hit the play button when the meeting begins. The cost updates every second. Use Focus Mode to display it on a shared screen if you want to make a point.

3

Stop and share

When the meeting ends, stop the timer and grab a screenshot with the Share button. Post it in Slack or your team channel to start a conversation about whether it was worth it.
